Working with Rachel on photography projects for Amnesty International was always an absolute pleasure. She not only captures absolutely beautiful photos but does so in a professional manner. She has the natural ability to put her subjects at ease while capturing stunning photos in the process. Mostly working on projects where the photographs were of people who had suffered immensely and had provided raw and heartbreaking testimony to Amnesty, Rachel captured their photos in a sensitive way. The photos themselves expressed the raw emotions of the subjects, portraying a sense of injustice and the need to act. Where subjects didn’t want to be identified Rachel was able to capture their photo in a way that while hiding their identity, still expressed the emotion and told a compelling and powerful narrative.Rachel’s skills as a photographer are to be admired, I would highly recommend her and wouldn’t hesitate for a second to work with her again
Rachel Banfield was responsible for the photography involved in capturing leadership lessons from inspiring individuals who had contributed to recovery in Christchurch after the earthquakes. The vision was not just to photograph the leaders but to have the photographs capture part of the leaderships they wanted to share. Each one was unique, each personal. Rachel ensured that the photographs were not only beautiful executed portraits but each was a powerful narrative.
We were privileged to have Rachel Banfield work with us on the Through Their Eyes project which focused on the work of young Pacific leaders in empowering young people to make a change in their own communities. Rachel combines a professional approach behind the camera with an easy approach and great people skills. She is able to build trust and draw out both the stories and deeper realities in the lives of the people behind them.
It was an absolute blast having Rachel as the photographer for our project! She made everybody feel comfortable in front of the camera, which is not an easy task! She was very professional, easy to work with and incredibly patient. Shakti used her beautiful and powerful images in a booklet about family and domestic violence in ethnic communities. I highly recommend her and I would definitely like to work with her on our next projects!
I learnt a lot of things from her training. Like now I know to stand close to the person I’m taking a photo of, and to make a clear background. I’m really happy. Now I know how to take good photos for our work.
I would just like to say a huge thank you to Rachel, for her amazing work photographing my animals on the farm. We had a blast zooming around through the mud on the quad bike to get the perfect shots. As part of my Wild Horse Project, I later used her images for publication in two magazines, and was very happy with the results, and all her work. Can’t wait for the next photo shoot!
